There are many official ways how to update firmware on your Sony (Ericsson) XPERIA smartphone. You can use PC Companion or Sony Update Service on Windows computers or you can use Sony Bridge for Mac on Apple computers. But sometimes it is better to use unofficial way - you can get latest firmware as it's released for your country etc. A quick heads-up to all of you Apple Mac users out there, Sony’s Bridge for Mac software has just hit version 2.0. - Tap “Apps” on the home screen
- Open “Settings”
- Scroll to “Personal” and tap “Back up & reset”
- Optionally, disable “Automatic restore”
- Under “Personal data”, tap “Factory data reset'

- When informed that “data will be cleared and factory data reset will perform”, tap “Reset customization and reboot”

- Download and install PC Companion on the PC
- Once installed, launch “PC Companion”
- Under “Support Zone”, click “Start”
- Under “Phone / Tablet Software Update”, click “Start”
- Connect the Xperia Z5 Compact to your PC via USB
- Click “Repair my phone / tablet” in PC Companion
- If necessary, follow any on-screen steps that may come up next
